We are all familiar with the law. Any person who is driving a vehicle must have a valid insurance policy. Whether you drive a sports car, an SUV, or even a motorcycle, if you get caught without insurance, you better be prepared to pay a very hefty price. It’s definitely not fun coughing up a monthly insurance payment, but ask anyone who has ever been caught without insurance about how much fun they had dealing with the law! Here are some of the penalties you could be faced with if you fail to provide valid proof of insurance.
You Will Lose Your Driving Privileges For At Least 90 Days
If you rely on your vehicle to get to and from work, losing your driving privileges could cause you to lose your job. At minimum, getting caught without car insurance will result in losing your privileges for at least 90 days! If you have a poor driving record, or if you have been caught without insurance in the past, your privileges could be taken away for up to two years. Why would your employer keep you around if you couldn’t get to and from work every day?
You Will Get Your License Plate And Registration Suspended
Suspending your license plate and registration is another way that the BMV takes money out of your pocket. In order to start driving your vehicle again, you will be forced to pay a $125 reinstatement fee. If you happen to get your plates suspended again in the future, this fee will significantly go up ($300).
You Are Forced To Get High-Risk Insurance
If you are caught without car insurance, you are considered a high-risk driver. Because of this, you will be forced to have a high-risk policy called an SR-22 or a bond. This kind of insurance will only cover damages or injury to another person’s body or personal property. It will not cover any damage done to the policy owner’s property.
Don’t Let A Good Day Quickly Become A Bad Day
Any of the penalties mentioned in this article could quickly turn a good day into a bad day. Nobody likes to spend money on something that they may consider useless, but it would be a horrible mistake to think car insurance is useless. Accidents happen on a daily basis! Nobody ever plans on getting in an accident, but when they happen, it’s nice to be financially covered for whatever damage may come up.
