It has been planned by Toyota Motor Corporation to recall almost 270,000 previously sold vehicles throughout the world that had engines that were potentially faulty, latest in the string of the quality issues for ensnaring the automakers from Japan. It was announced by Toyota that a recall would be issued throughout the world that also includes the luxurious Lexus sedans as well. The transport ministry of Japan was informed by Toyota about the recall of the 90,000 previously sold vehicles. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not been formally notified by Toyota about the recall. Under the law of United States an automaker can have five days time for recalling some vehicle after some safety defect is found.
It was said by Lexus that valve springs having some faults were discovered by it in the V6 and the V8 engines of the models of Lexus sold in USA. It was stated that due to some minor variations in the process of manufacturing, valve springs might have been contaminated by some foreign material that resulted in the potential breakage. This situation might lead to the remote possibility of the engine noise or the occurrence of idling. Sometimes it is quite possible that the engine might stop working during the operation of the vehicle but it happens very rarely.
No accident or the injury reports related to this particular issue were received to Lexus, which might include IS 350, GS 460, GS 350, LS 460, GS 450h and the LS 600hL models in the United States.
The general manager and the vice president for Lexus, Mark Templin, told the reporters that almost 137,000 previously sold vehicles have been affected by this issue in the United States. The company has not yet come up with some remedy but the customers will be advised when it will have one. He further said that the company has not received any reports of the accidents that were related to this particular issue in United States. He said that they have received a few complaints from the customers.
It was said by the spokesman of Toyota Hideaki Homma that the engines might stop during the movement of the vehicle. Therefore above 9 million previously sold vehicles have been recalled by Toyota for abrupt acceleration problems and some other related issues during the last year.
But almost half of the vehicles have been repaired by Toyota that had been recalled in United States in a time five months or even less as said by general manager, Bob Carter. 2.3 million vehicles that had been recalled for the concerns of sticky pedal and about 78% of then have been done.
