We all seem to have come across them at some point in our lives. For some, its every once in a while but for others they come across many of them every day! I have an interest them and wanted to share information on them with others.
Charles P. Rudebaker was the person thought to have invented traffic cones way back in 1914. Something most people do not realise is that these original cones were made of concrete and not plastic as they are now. Over the years as materials and technology has developed so have traffic cones in a variety of ways. One of these is to incorporate retroflective collars to ensure that they can be seen when a light is on them (obviously a common occurrence when cars are driving at them in the dark) and these collars are now actually a legal requirement for them to be used on the road in the USA.
In the UK, traffic cones have been used since the 50s by the police and were initially made of wood but now, of course, plastic is used to produce them. They are designed to help you see what has happened on the road in order to keep yourself from getting into mishaps, especially when the road is being fixed.
Packing road cones in your car for emergency purposes is a good idea. They will come in handy in case of an accident or a breakdown. Being able to direct traffic properly when such a scenario occurs can help prevent accidental collisions. The very first thing that you need to do would be to decide on size. Nowadays, these products come in different varieties, ranging from 8 to 48 inches tall. Note that you should purchase items that are big enough to be easily spotted by oncoming cars. As a reference, you may want to shop for units that stand at least 24 inches in diameter.
I hope that has given you more information on traffic cones and that you can be more informed when needing information on them or talking about them with others!
