If you own a company which is doing well in the market place, I am certain that you’ve had problems with cyber-squatters trying to register various versions of your company name. It is quite time consuming to track them down or file a complaint when your registered service mark or Federal Trade Mark is violated in this way. It is just part of the Internet and a part of doing business. We all love the Internet as a communication tool, but it is amazing how it’s been misused at times; and we take the good with the bad.
But, new we see another problem along the same lines of domain name squatters and those trying to make a buck off all your hard work, and that of your company. Now, Internet Marketers, generally selling trinkets and knock-off products are buying “key words” of your Brand Name on the search engine “search returns” and thus, trying to steal some of your traffic and customers. Worse, they are getting away with it, and it can take months to get them to stop. Even once you get one pirate sunk, another takes their place.
Obviously, America’s greatest companies can stop this abuse quickly, but what if you are a small company? For instance, if someone tries to use the key-word “HP” or “DELL” they will not be allowed, which is good, but if someone tries to use the key-words for my company for instance; Car Wash Guys or Detail Guys, then they get away with it. Which causes time consuming work for our company in this case, but it could easily have been your company. See the point? There is no easy solution and the scamsters know this. Think on it.
