Much of our business involves clients who call and have found themselves with an ex-spouse who is not paying the child support due to them. This is an ever growing problem in the United States of America.
So, you find yourself divorced and with the primary care of the children. Beyond that you have found yourself with an ex-spouse who is not paying the child support due to you from the court order. This problem is ever growing and often the ex-spouse weaves their way through the nooks and crannies of the legal system and never pays the support you are entitled to. You will find yourself in a time consuming process of attempting to locate the ex-spouse and attempting to have service of process performed and judgments made. It is not fair and we understand that more than you know. Let’s look at how you can approach this in 2 phases. The first is things you can do to help yourself and the second is what a private investigator can do for you.
What you can do to help yourself:
The most important thing is to retain all your paperwork the court had provided to you. Retain all judgments, orders and minutes you may have after the hearings.
The next is to keep all relevant information about your ex-spouse you can. This includes names they used, date of birth, social security number, addresses, phone numbers, and places they worked including the addresses. If you have past banking information that is helpful as well because most persons stick with the bank they have used. You also want to keep track of friends the ex-spouse had been with and if you have any relevant information on them, that can prove to help down the road. Individual habits of the ex-spouse are truly important. Most humans are just that, human and will tend to frequent the same types of places or live in the same kind of areas. They will also tend to find the same type of work when they decide to leave their current employer because they are being garnished.
Finally when trying to find the ex-spouse on your own all the information you collect with be extremely worthwhile and keeping the information fresh is paramount to finding. If they come to see the kids, get the vehicle license plate number, description and anyone who is with them.
Don’t waste your time and money performing costly searches on internet databases available to the public!
What a private investigator can do for you:
The first and most important thing that a private investigator brings to you is investigative experience. Private investigators have the experience, skills and training to handle investigations such as yours. You cannot discount the fact that a private investigator will be able to put their investigative experience to work on your case. You will find that hiring a private investigator gives you more success in your investigative needs.
The second thing hiring a private investigator will do for you is open the world of informational databases that you do not have access to. As I stated above, you probably have exhausted money and time on internet databases that have old and useless information. You are not alone in this, as 90% of our clients that call have already done the same searches and come up empty handed and with a lighter wallet. Those databases are what I call ‘instant consumer satisfaction’ databases. They draw you into feeling that you will get information that is worthy for your case, but in all reality they are information clearing houses that have old information which is useless the majority of the time. The databases we use are not available to the general public. We have to subscribe to them and only after getting clearance and passing a background does one get authorization to the database. You may ask why and the answer is simple; our databases hold current, close and personal information of people.
Third are the other resources available to a private investigator. Driver’s license and vehicle registration information is extremely helpful to you in your case, but you don’t have the ability to access that information even with a court order or judgment. A private investigator has the ability to access that information. In past cases, we have gained valuable information for past cases using driver’s license information and vehicle registration. Banking account information or asset information is not something available to you, but as private investigators we can find this information so you can have garnishments attached to the banking information. Business ownership is not always available to you but as private investigators we have the ability to get that information so you can prove there is an ownership in a business. Probably the most important fact for you is the place of employment. Finding out where the ex-spouse works is important to have their wages garnished. Many times an ex-spouse quits their job once a garnishment to wages is placed in your case and they find other employment; and you have no idea where that employment is and have not resources to help you. As private investigators we can find the place of employment (POE) for you.
The reality is going at finding your ex-spouse to get the money owed to you in child support is time consuming and frustrating. You will find yourself hitting dead ends everywhere you turn. It is not fair and everyone agrees with you on that. In the end trying to do this all alone is taking away from the time you could be spending with your family. With the expertise and resources that a private investigator has, you will get greater success at locating your ex-spouse and the cost will offset itself in the long run.
