A cheap used car as you’re the first vehicle that you will own is not such a bad idea. You can get the car that you want at the right price. If you have been saving up for that car, why don’t you look at the prices of used cars and take a pick. Maybe the money you have saved up is so far is the cost of buying that car.
However before rushing into any deal or signing any papers, here is a checklist you need when making a choice. It’s important, because you never know why the previous owner is selling it in first place.
How old is the car that you want to buy? You can either ask the sales person, or better yet check on the car registration document. If the car you want turns out to be considerably old, get the mechanic to check it out and see if everything is still in good shape. Chances are high that you will need to replace a few things if the seller did not do so before putting it out for sale.
Refrain from settling for an old rugged vehicle that needs repairs because it is cheap. There are some good used cars out there on the market that you will find with the same price. It’s your first car, so take your time, take a test drive, take a mechanic with you and choose the car that you are most comfortable with. Once all that is out of the way, you can then start comparing or negotiating the price.
